In Corpus Christi P.S., the children have been actively engaged in ‘Operation Transition’ in collaboration with the SMILE School Completion Team. These programmes aim to empower parents to guide their children through the school transfer process.
The programmes endeavour to support parents to recognise they are real stakeholders in their children’s education and to have a sense of ownership and involvement in their child’s new school. Due to current restrictions, all of the partners of the school community strived to deliver these programmes in a creative way this year.
Naomi and Adrian from SMILE School Completion Programme are currently delivering a face-to-face transition programme with the students. The annual ‘Dreamboards’ session occurred recently where the children identified their ambitions and dreams for the future through a creative display of pictures of their hopes and dreams. The children’s work was shared with parents online as they could not attend the session due to Covid restrictions.
The pre-school ‘Ambitions to Traditions programme’ was facilitated in small groups of six with the principal and HSCL in the school halla. Before school started in September, Corpus Christi’s HSCL visited each family, accompanied by the class teacher where possible. It is hoped to facilitate the programme in the same way this year over the next few weeks.
