Creative Arts in Corpus Christi
We are proud to offer a vibrant performing arts experience for the children of Corpus Christi P.S, promoting self confidence, high self esteem, pride in oneself and community, co operation, team work, leadership skills and most importantly fun.
Our aim is that each child will be part of a large creative process in their time with us, whether that is being part of a big musical and dramatic production, be part of movie making and film production or join our school choir .
As well as our annual Christmas concerts and Seachtain na Gaeilge performances, Corpus Christi aim to stage an original school musical every two to three years . We have performed on all the stages of Limerick - the Belltable, the Lime Tree, UL and the Millennium Theatre having great success with shows such as "Birth of a Nation", "Reeling in the years", "1916; The Story" - for which we won a Bord Gáis award, and "Moyross to Mars".
Corpus Christi is also gaining a reputation as leaders in film production and movie making, learning skills such as writing scripts and characters, filming on location and with green screen, editing, sound production, animation and directing. We are four times award winners at the International Fresh Film Festival for movies "The Polar Express", "Hon the Treaty", "High Hopes" and "The Streets of Limerick".
Our school choir have performed on local and national stages and have performed at such events as "Up for the Match", The IPPN conference, Dolan’s stage, the Miriam O'Callaghan radio show and Leopardstown Racecourse.
These creative opportunities leave lasting and fun filled positive memories for our children.
All children will participate in many annual creative processes and each child will also be afforded the opportunity to take part in a large original school musical production, an original film, the school choir or a collaborative visual arts project with artists in residence.
Each child is given the opportunity to take part in drama lessons and dramatic productions in Corpus Christi School. Each Christmas, the school invites parents and locals to experience the talents of each child on the school stage. In past years, children have had the chance to exhibit these talents in the Belltable Arts Centre and the ‘Millennium Theatre’ in the Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT).
Over the past number of years Corpus Christi has been delighted to welcome various musicians and bands to our school. We are hugely involved with Music Generation and tutors from this programme deliver lessons to our classes each year. We have also taken part in many Music Generation concerts. We are incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work with The Redemptorist School of Music who provide weekly guitar lessons in our school. Along with all of this, our wonderful class teachers teach Music as part of the school curriculum and we have our own 'Teacher's Band' who perform traditional music for many school events. Our tuneful choir are always a joy to listen to during religious ceremonies at different times of the year as well as performing at various local and national events. A community choir is also running in our school for any parent/adult who would like to join.
All styles of dance are catered for in Corpus Christi PS. Through in-school PE lessons and after school dance classes, the children get to learn and practice a variety of dance styles.
Poetry, Debating and Public Speaking
Through Literacy and Gaeilge lessons, the children are exposed to a diverse range of poetry and songs. Each year the children take part in Féile Luimnigh to display their skills and abilities. The senior classes regularly take part in debates and public speaking exercises.
Film is a major part of the Arts curriculum in Corpus Christi PS. The children have written and starred in a number of short films over the past number of years and their skills and talents have been noted through their award winning "Up the Treaty" film.
Each class completes themed Visual Art lessons and projects on a weekly basis. The themes are based around learning in the class, Aistear activities and upcoming events. "There's only one you" is our whole - school Art Project and ensures that every individual child contributes their own design each year.
